How Xbox Lost the Console War

The console wars has been going on ever since different companies tried to introduce their new video game system to play the latest and greatest games on the best hardware on the market. Most of you who might read this will know a lot about, some of you even participated in it by taking allegiances to either Sega, Sony or Nintendo or Sega Genesis over Super Nintendo and the Playstation.  Sure, you could make the argument that there have been clear winners from console generation to console generation but despite whoever the winner of the generation is the "war" never ends. Now for the purpose of this particular article I will be using my own rules as to what determines who wins the console generation. First, your gaming experience must be something that no one else can top, the games are legendary and even today if you were to mention these titles, everyone in the room begins to think fond memories of said games and reminisces about them. Second, hardware that makes the gami...

Fallout 4(XB1) Review

This is a super late to the party review! I sat on this review for awhile because it took me awhile to complete the main story with a faction of the Commonwealth and I also wanted to wait until Mods were released and how they worked out. With both of those checked off the list and a calculated 3 days and 23 hours put into the game, both regular and modded Fallout 4 delivers on a more immersive RPG survival game with many changes and improvements to aspects of the Fallout series but is lacking in certain areas. Welcome to the Commonwealth! Fallout 4 begins on the day the bombs fell, the day when the world panicked in order to scramble towards the vaults to stay safe from the nuclear holocaust above. Our main character is put on ice, frozen until the world has been rebuilt. We all unfortunately know how the world rebuilding thing goes... Mean while our character is frozen, out of nowhere two strangers are seen breaking into the vault and kidnapping our infant son away fr...

RUMOR: PS4 Games To Have 4.5GB of PS4 RAM, OS To Have 3.5GB

Good morning folks. Before I begin this, take this story with a grain of salt. The article from EuroGamer claims that Digital Foundry got documents from "a well placed development source," it's an unnamed source. Digital Foundry has been know to give "falsies" in the past from "well placed sources" this has not been confirmed by Sony Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-ps3-system-software-memory According to the article, the PS4 will reserve 3.5GB of the 8GB GDDR5 memory for the operating system, leaving 4.5 GB of space for game code. However, further sources suggest that an additional 1GB of "flexible memory" may be reclaimed from the OS reservation, based on availability, making 5.5GB potentially accessible. Internal Sony documents suggest that 4.5GB is the "baseline amount of guaranteed memory available" for games, but the additional 1GB of "flexible memory" can be used by de...

PS4 and Xbox One Game DVR Time and Limitations

Good afternoon everyone. Today I've got info on the console DVR record time for both the PS4 and Xbox One. Source: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/07/ps4-records-more-gameplay-than-xbox-one/ During an interview with Gamespot, Microsoft Studios creative director Ken Lobb, gave us insight to how long of footage you can record with the console DVR of the Xbox One. "It's called Project Upload. So the idea is you're always recording, so we have a ring buffer game DVR, basically. So the last five minutes of any game you're playing is always being stored locally on your hard drive." However if you want to record the last 30 seconds of footage meanwhile you're playing  online, you can say "Xbox Record" the console DVR will record the last 30 seconds of what happened in the game. On the other side of the aisle, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe R&D head Neil Brown said at the Develop Conference earlier this month that the PS4 ...

Xbox One Pre-Orders Score High Numbers

Good morning folks. The Xbox One is scoring a large number of pre-orders, large numbers that surpass the 360 pre-orders during the months before the 360 was released. Source : http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57594504-75/xbox-one-scores-high-number-of-preorders/ This past Thursday, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One has surpassed the number of preorders during the pre-launch months of the Xbox 360. The upcoming console has sold out in preorder status at most of its major retailers in the U.S.  The 360 is also heating up sales, for the 30th month in a row, the 360 was the top-selling home console in the United States last month with consumers snagging more than 140,000 units. Total spending on the Xbox 360 including hardware, software and accessories hit $197 million in June, research firm NPD said Thursday, the highest number for any console in the U.S. ______________________________________________________ To begin with, I find it quite odd that people ar...

Jason Rubin On Console Power

Good afternoon everyone. Thank you for joining me. Jason Rubin, Co-Founder of Naughty Dog and Former THQ President has given his thoughts on the power of both consoles, he was asked about the PS4 and Xbox One hardware power on Twitter by a user named 'NOVA' and this is his response. Then when asked for clarification, this is what he responded with. I agree with what he's saying. What he's saying is that even if either console was more powerful than the other, the experience with the console is what matters the most, not the power. If the developer can not take advantage of the developing power that the console offers them and we end up with a game with terrible gameplay or has many glitches and errors, console power will not matter if the experience is terrible. The games available, the price of the system, the overall experience on the console itself regardless of power that makes it the better console. Not hardware power, it's something t...

EA Raises The Price of Next-Gen Games In The UK(Grain of Salt Needed)

Hello again lovely people. According to the UK retailer GAME, EA has raised their prices for next-gen titles. However, take a grain of salt when reading this. It has been spreading like wildfire online right now, EA is raising the price of their next gen games. So far the only region confirmed that is getting this raised price is the UK. The UK based retail outlet known as GAME(UK's version of Gamestop) has confirmed that the price of next-gen titles from EA for both the PS4 and Xbox One will be raised from  £39.99 to £54.99. The news came from GAME themselves in a Q&A about the next generation of home console gaming. TechRadar caught wind of the Q&A, where GAME rolls out the pricing of next-gen titles, stating. "At present, the only publisher to confirm costs of their next generation games are EA, attaching a price of  54.99 pounds. No other game prices have been confirmed. We will of course update our listings as and when this happens. And ...

China Might Lift Home Console Ban and A Mountie Kills His Wife

Good afternoon everybody. China may be lifting a ban on home gaming consoles that have lasted for the past 13 years and there's a very strange story about a Mountie and a Wii. Home Console Ban May Be Lifted Source(s): http://www.gamepolitics.com/2013/07/10/report-china-preparing-lift-13-year-long-console-ban#.UeG4043q3bN http://www.scmp.com/business/companies/article/1279456/china-plans-allow-production-and-sale-game-consoles-mainland For the past 13 years the Chinese Government has had a ban on game consoles, this ban came into play in the year 2000. In order to shield the country's youth from the "corruptive evils of video games", the ban has been active since then but the ban was negated when shortly after the ban online gaming exploded, China's youth became gamers anyway. China may now be considering to lift the ban, according to the South China Morning Post. The move is part of a detailed policy blueprint for a "Shanghai freed trade ...

My Thoughts On The Xbox One DRM Petition

Good morning folks. Before I go on with this blog I want you guys to realize, no I am not an Xbox Fanboy, no I am not a Nintendo Fanboy, no I'm not a PC fanboy and no I'm not a Sony fanboy. I play on Nintendo consoles, Microsoft consoles, Sony consoles and PC. With that said, let's get onto the subject at hand. A petition has been made asking for Microsoft to bring back the policies that consumers were not a fan of, wanting the same policies back so they can get the features they lost when the DRM policies were reversed. This is what the petition says. "This was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers uncertainty." "We want this back. It can't be all or nothing, there must be a compr...

Best Buy Sold Out of Xbox One Pre-Orders

Good morning everyone. Like the GameStop story I brought to you yesterday, it seems that you can no longer Pre-Order the Xbox One from Best Buy for the time being, the console is sold out. Source: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Microsoft---Xbox-One%3A-Day-One-Edition/9008207.p?id=1219013502536&skuId=9008207#tab=overview According to the product page for the console on the website, says that the console is 'sold out online'. However they are still accepting pre-orders for the PS4. The product page also shows below the console, Shipping is not available and Store pickup is also not available. ______________________________________________________ Well although you won't be able to pre-order the Xbox One from Best Buy for the time being, Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon and Toys R' Us is still taking pre-orders for the Xbox One and PS4. Imagine the lines of people who've pre-ordered their console and are picking it up at the these stores. I hope that...

GameStop Sells Out PS4 Pre-Orders

Good afternoon everyone. Thank you for joining me today and I actually have some bad news for anyone who is looking to pre-order their PS4 from GameStop. You can't, GameStop has sold out all of their PS4 launch units. Source: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/07/08/gamestop-cuts-off-playstation-4-preorders.aspx According to the article on GameInformer, GameStop will not be taking any more pre-orders for the PS4 because they are "sold out" according to GameStop's site as seen in the image above. A statement issued to Game Informer, which Gamestop owns, reads... "Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4". The article also states that anyone who is interested in pre-ordering the console will have to submit their e-mail address to be kept updated when reservations for the console will be available again. __________________________________________...

The Eighth Console Generation:Microsoft And Sony, My Thoughts

Hello everyone, thank you reading this. Today I'm going to talk about the next generation we're heading into now with the Xbox One and PS4. I'm going to be giving my opinion on the companies and their consoles with the info we have today. I'm going to start with Microsoft, simply to get it out of the way. Please read the end of this post. Microsoft Microsoft has been Microsoft's worst enemy in recent months leading to E3 and now leading to the launch of the console. Honestly, I think the negative PR gate opened when Microsoft revealed the console and advertised it like a giant TV box. I do see what they were trying to do, expand their audience with those that watch TV more than playing games, but in doing so they abandoned the gaming audience.  Gamers do not buy their latest gaming console for TV and movies, it's a nice feature but a feature that will rarely be used. Even now I hardly use any of the apps for TV and mo...

Playstation 4 Console Release Date Might Have Been Revealed

We might have a release date of the PS4. Well at least for people in Europe. A photo has been going around the internet from Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. This photo was posted by NeoGAF user Cyborg, he took this photo when he was in an electronica shop in Amsterdam. Now some would say that this is simply a promotional tool, that's not actually the case. Media Markt is Europe's equivalent to  Best Buy from here in the U.S. They don't do things like this without direct word from Sony. So this could be a legitimate release date for Sony fans down in Europe. Sony has been asked for confirmation from multiple gaming  network sites but nothing has come from Sony so far. Will this be the release date for western gamers as well? Not sure but here's hoping. I'll keep you guys up to date as much as possible.

Xbox One DRM Free, Loses Some Features

Yesterday Microsoft had announced some major changes to the Xbox One DRM and Always Online Policy. The Xbox One will no longer require to play offline Xbox One games, meaning that once you put the disc into the console you will not have to check in every 24 hours to play a game. There will no longer be any limitations to using and sharing games, it'll work out the same way it does today. There will also be no more regional restrictions on the Xbox One. Xbox Live Vice President Marc Whitten states that... " You could buy a console in any country and use it in any country, you can use any disc in that console." However,  in an interview with Kotaku the V.P.  is stating that now due to this change a few features will be lost in the process. Marc Whitten states... "There's a few things we won't be able to deliver as a result of this change, one of the things we were very excited about was 'wherever we go my games are always with me....

BREAKING: Microsoft Reverses Position On Always-Online and Used Games

I literally found this out as soon as I finished the weapon guide I just posted. Microsoft's Don Mattrick has announced that the Xbox One will no longer require an internet connection to play offline Xbox One games and they have also taken a reversed stance on their used games policy. In an article from Xbox Wire, written by Don Mattrick. Microsoft has listened to the community and how gamers felt about the always-online and used games policy. They have taken a reversed stance on these policies. This is what their new policies are. An Internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One Games-  According to the article the system will work like it does on the Xbox 360. " After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360."  Tr...

Jack Tretton On The PS4: "A Consumer Focused Machine"

Good morning everyone. Playstation CEO Jack Tretton in an interview with Bloomberg TV was discussing the Playstation 4 and why it is a consumer-focused machine. It will not restrict the use of used games, require users to connect to the internet once a day. In the interview, Jack Tretton states... "We're most concerned about the consumer and we really appeal to consumers on a worldwide basis, and I think in the United States, we realize there's a high degree of broadband adoption, but we're in a lot of countries where people don't have the ability to connect on a daily basis and we want to appeal to consumers worldwide." When the subject came to the used games, Tretton said the ability to freely share titles with friends or to resell them to retailers creates value for the initial purchase. If this flexibility were to be taken away, consumers would be less likely to buy games, he said. "The other thing as it relates to the ownership of t...

Major Nelson: Banned Players Do Not Lose All Their Games

Here's some decent info this time. A recent rumor was spreading that if you are banned on the Xbox One, you lose all the licenses to any games that are tied to your account. This rumor had actually came by through a tweet from Xbox Support on Twitter. Xbox Support replied to a tweet stating... " If your account is banned, you also forfeit the licenses to any games that have licenses tied to it as listed  in the ToU" Originally this was supposed to be the case for banned users of the Xbox One, however in an interview with Major Nelson. Nelson was asked about the this subject in an interview, he was asked about this subject. "If someone is banned or not will they lose access to the games they have purchased?" Which Nelson replied... " Absolutely not! You will always have access to the games you have purchased." ______________________________________________________ I had actually seen a photo of this on some of the website...

PS4 To Require Playstation Plus For Online Play

Amongst the many good announcements and information given about the PS4, there is an aspect of the info coming out about PS4 that has me personally saying "Well it isn't like Microsoft's deal" Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said... "As far as free-to-play games are concerned, it's the publisher's decision whether they put it inside or outside of PS Plus." Online multiplayer for PS4 games will require a Playstation Plus subscription. This is a change from Sony's model with the PS3. PS Plus for PS3 users got offers, discounts and exclusives, however online play on the PS3 is free with or without a subscription. PS Plus will remain at 50 dollars annually and users can rollover their subscription from the PS3. However video services such as Hulu and Netflix will not require a PS Plus subscription. Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold subscription however is 60 dollars annually for the Xbox One, be required for online play(...
