Amongst the many good announcements and information given about the PS4, there is an aspect of the info coming out about PS4 that has me personally saying "Well it isn't like Microsoft's deal"

Online multiplayer for PS4 games will require a Playstation Plus subscription. This is a change from Sony's model with the PS3. PS Plus for PS3 users got offers, discounts and exclusives, however online play on the PS3 is free with or without a subscription. PS Plus will remain at 50 dollars annually and users can rollover their subscription from the PS3. However video services such as Hulu and Netflix will not require a PS Plus subscription.
Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold subscription however is 60 dollars annually for the Xbox One, be required for online play(as it has been since the days of the original Xbox console). Unlike PS Plus for the PS4 and PS3, a Gold membership is required for every service on the Xbox console such as Netflix. Sony is still undercutting Microsoft a little bit here.
Sony did explain to Destructoid why this is necessary...
"If we continue free service for online multiplayer, from a business standpoint, there's a pressure to recover costs. That's when we decided 'let's ask the people who are most active in playing online to share some of the cost so we can invest more'."
It's to cover the costs of the PS4's online infrastructure, which includes the new sharing and streaming features, the two-screen features like Skype chat and all of the other things the cloud has to offer, as well as the standard stuff like server maintenance.
PS Plus users new and old will still be able to enjoy the sales and free game promotions PS Plus if offer its current subscribers, besides that the monthly fee is less than 5 bucks.
It's almost the asking price for a box of macaroni and cheese. Also this means the PSN network would be more secure.
It sucks that we have to pay to play online, but when you keep in mind how low the monthly cost is, what deals you get with the PS Plus,the PS4 itself and some of the online multiplayer games that we'll be able to play like Destiny and Battlefield 4, honestly there's not much to complain about.
Have some perspective and think about the pros and cons. Recently PS Plus users got 5 free games with their subscription and ones of those games included being Deus Ex:Human Revolution.
