Revisiting Alien Isolation in 2024

 Many years ago my girlfriend at the time surprised me with a gift copy of Alien Isolation for the Playstation 4. We ended up playing it together (meaning I played it and she watched) and I remember liking the experience and feeling very immersed into the world that Alien Isolation created. It was almost as if we were smack dab in the world that Ridley Scott had created with his film Alien back from 1979. The retro-futuristic steam punk style with checkerboard patterns, clean white hallways decked out with pipes, valves, wiring panels and industrial food coolers etc. really lend to Alien Isolation becoming a truly immersive video game that I would argue rivals many video games today.   Now if you remember for those of you out there that did read or watch IGN reviews you know or heard that IGN found the game frustrating, some of course disregarded those statements as ridiculous but after having playing a few hours these last couple of days to be in the spook season mo...

Resident Evil 8 Village Review: A Resident Evil Greatest Hits Anthology

 I have been a dedicated fan of the Resident Evil franchise ever since a few of my friends brought over their copy of Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo 64. I started off not knowing how to operate the tank controls to eventually mastering it and making it past the very first area of the game and then eventually grew to beating the game multiple times and unlocking the special bonus weapons.  I would say I've played almost all the entries into the Resident Evil franchise save a few like RE:Survivor, Outbreak File 2 and the very VERY first RE game from the PS1 days.  What I've loved about the franchise is the slow burn of tension and horror along the very iconic set pieces and background music such as the 2nd half of the Dead Factory area in RE2 "The Marshaling Yard" perfectly encapsulating the industrial, futuristic mystery and horror of Umbrella's experiments and haunting atmosphere. Almost every game has something so unique about it that it can stand out in anyone...
